The NEARVET project is thrilled to introduce the Open Applied Research Resources Space within our Digital Hub. This innovative space is designed to be a comprehensive repository for research outputs, articles, case studies, and a wealth of resources related to Applied Research in Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Situated within the NEARVET Digital Hub (WP4), the Open Applied Research Resources Space is dedicated to facilitating the sharing and dissemination of valuable research outputs and resources pertinent to Applied Research in VET. This dedicated section allows partners and other agents involved in Applied Research to publish diverse content, including books, articles, presentations, videos, podcasts, relevant projects, available training courses, reference materials, bibliographies, and studies identified as relevant for applied research in VET.
The NEARVET Open Applied Research Resources Space addresses several pressing issues in the current VET landscape, particularly the challenges faced by VET professionals in accessing relevant and affordable research outputs. As highlighted in the NEARVET project application, the primary aim is to provide free and easy access to resources, actively engaging existing networks to ensure a significant impact.
Growth in research publications is complicating researchers' ability to assess the relevance of results, while academic research libraries struggle with rising publication costs. Digitalization offers opportunities to shift the formal communication of science, enabling researchers to publish their work via the “green open access road” through self-archiving on personal websites, Web 2.0 platforms, or repositories. However, Open Access is less established in the humanities and social sciences, including VET research, due to a lack of awareness about its possibilities and advantages.
The NEARVET Open Applied Research Resources Space responds to this situation by ensuring high-quality publications and relevance through peer review, maintaining rigorous academic standards. By promoting an accessible online format, NEARVET aims to enhance the dissemination and impact of applied research in VET. It will offer free resources from over six EU countries in various languages to a diverse range of stakeholders, including companies, VET organizations, VET schools, and policymakers.
The space is designed to extend beyond a typical blog or dissemination section. It features indexed themes critical for developing essential skills for applied researchers in VET, showcasing practical knowledge, resources, and case studies aligned with NEARVET’s goal to uncover and enhance the capacities of the wider VET community. This initiative is crucial for fostering innovation and addressing contemporary challenges, particularly in collaboration with the business community to derive mutual benefits.
The NEARVET Open Applied Research Resources Space represents a significant step forward in the dissemination and impact of applied research in VET. By providing free and easy access to high-quality resources, promoting good practices, and fostering cooperation between educational institutions and the business community, this initiative will drive innovation and enhance professional development across Europe. We look forward to the active participation and valuable contributions of all NEARVET partners in making this space a cornerstone of excellence in VET research.
